Captain Wally's Fishing Report

July ‘08

Weel you can really tell its summer now.  The kingfish and bonita have come in strong towards the end of this month.  There are still a few mahi-mahi around but not as consistent as last month.  The wreck fishing is getting better with some larger sized Amberjacks and even a grouper for the some of the luckier clients.  Shark fishing has slowed down but there have still been a few sailfish biting on the troll.  And last but not least the Vermillion snapper have finally started showing up again.  Fishing should stay pretty steady through August.  Let you know soon!

The mahi fishing has been pretty consistant so far this month.  We have had some days with a lot of schoolie size fish and some with a few larger fish but not as many schoolies.  The kingfish bite has gotten a lot better later is the month with out there being too many bonita.  There have also still been some sailfish around while trolling for everything else.  The hammerhead bite has slowed down some but the sandbars are starting to show up a little more.

There have been some big mahi-mahi around this month.  We have also been catching a few sailfish, kingfish, and bonita trolling outside of the reef.  Shark fishing has been producing some large hammerheads and the occasional sandbar shark as well.

A Special Tale

I know I wrote a report yesterday, but this one is special. We took a good friend and his family fishing today for his bachelor party. We caught a Bonito, a big Spanish mackerel, and nine Kingfish. It worked out great because they are having a cook out for about thirty people. We would like to congratulate Tory and Trish on their marriage. Well that’s all for now, hope to see you soon.

The sailfishing has been really good this month and there have been some big hammerhead sharks showing up as well.  There has also been a mixed bag of kingfish, bonita, mahi-mahi, and the occasional barracuda along the reef.  Trolling offshore around debris has produced some nice sized mahi and some wahoo.  Hopefully this keeps up for a while longer.

Well, it’s been a really good week for fishing. We caught a lot of Kingfish and there are still a few Wahoo being caught. There have also been a few Sailfish and some Hammerhead Sharks around. Wednesday night we took a charter captain and his family from North Carolina out Swordfishing. We caught a small Swordfish about fifteen minutes after we put our baits out. Then another keeper size Swordfish an hour later. We reset after that fish and got a nice fish on shortly after that. That one proved a bit more difficult. It fought for about an hour until we got the leader, but as things happen with fishing, the leader broke before we could gaff it. That was all before 9:30. We reset again around 10:00 and shortly after that it started raining. That lasted till 11:00 and we decided to call it a night. We were bringing in the baits when I saw some baitfish around the underwater light. We had caught about fifteen Tinker Mackerel when I looked over the side of the boat and saw another Swordfish swim through the light. We put a couple of baits out, but didn’t get the fish to eat. It was a great night and we all went home happy. Well that’s all for now, hope to see you soon.

It has been a pretty good month for us.  There have been some great days for sailfish and we have also been getting some kingfish, mahi-mahi, bonita, and an occasional blackfin tuna.  Hopefully the weather patterns hold out for a while longer, April is usually a good month as well.

It has been a very busy week for us. We have fished every day except Monday. Tuesday we fished all day. It was a little slow but our charter had a great time. On Wednesday we caught another 30 pound Wahoo as well as some Bonito and kingfish. Thursday we caught some Kingfish and a small Amberjack fishing live baits. Friday we fished in the afternoon and caught 2 Sailfish. Today we also caught 2 Sailfish in the afternoon. As I said it was a busy week. Well that’s all for now, hope to see you soon.

There have been a lot of different species of fish around this week. We have had a few kingfish and bonito while live baiting. There have also been a few sailfish and some sharks. We caught a Wahoo that weighted about 30 pounds on our trip this afternoon. There is supposed to be a front moving through tomorrow, hopefully the sailfish will start biting again. Well that’s all for now, hope to see you soon.

Today was a pretty good day of fishing. Our trip was originally set for yesterday but, because of the rain, we rescheduled it for today. I heard of numerous sailfish and sharks. We had one shot at a sailfish and caught two sharks. The first shark was a Silky shark about four feet long. The second one was a Spinner shark that was over five feet and weighed 30 or 40 pounds. We also had a large Wahoo eat one of our baits, but we were fishing monofilament leaders and were not able to keep it from biting through. We had a few other mystery fish that we fought but were unable to see before the hooks pulled out. We all had a good time and saw some fish we don’t see a lot of. Well that’s all for now, hope to see you soon.
